Warning! Massive spoilers for My Hero Academia Chapter 424 to follow! My Hero Academia has officially kicked off the epilogue for the manga series with its newest chapter, and with it has debuted Izuku Midoriya's new look after the war! My Hero Academia has been spending the last few years fighting through the final battles against All For One and Tomura Shigaraki, and with the previous chapter officially brought these fights to an end with the final blow against All For One. Now it's been confirmed that the fight is done, and thus it's time for Deku and the others to move on with their lives.

My Hero Academia has ushered in an official epilogue following the end of the fight against the villains, but it's clear that the manga is far from over. The creator behind it all revealed plans to explore more of the aftermath in an extended epilogue story, and the newest chapter starts all of this off by having Deku recover from all of his injuries. It's revealed that it's all had quite the impact on him physically, and with the newest chapter gave him a new look following everything that happened to Deku during the war.

My Hero Academia 424: Deku Begins His Post-War Life

My Hero Academia Chapter 424 confirms that the fight against All For One has ended, and heroes from all over the world have come to Japan to help with the recovery efforts. It's meant that everything has been rebuilt faster than expected, and Deku and the rest of the heroes were able to take their time and recover from all of their injuries. It's quite the lengthy process, and Deku's narration from the beginning wraps back around to note that he used to think differently when he was little.

Noting that he thought that peace would be restored after the battle, it was clear that until they lead the way towards a bright future their fight is not over yet. It's here that fans see Deku's new look, which comes from the loss of a bit of a his hair due to all of the injuries he took over the course of the fight. This is only his immediate post recovery look, however, and we'll likely see Deku take on all sorts of other looks before the manga comes to its official end.

One Piece: Sanji Simps Harder Than Ever Thanks to New Stussy Scene https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-sanji-simp-stussy-anime/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 23:28:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 034b1872-487a-4b1b-bc18-c4e9f8063dae

One Piece just might have shown Sanji at his most simp level yet with a new Stussy scene in the latest episode of the anime! One Piece: Egghead Arc has been setting up for the next major phase of the anime's latest arc as the Straw Hats are now searching through Dr. Vegapunk's massive future island laboratory in order to find the missing scientist. All the while there's quite a bit of chaos brewing on the outside, so it won't be too much longer before the Straw Hats are caught in the midst of chaos once more.

But while the One Piece anime has slowed down just a bit in order to really get ready for what's coming next for Luffy and the Straw Hats, there are still plenty of character moments for the crew as they get to show off more of their respective personalities. This is especially true for Sanji, who shows off more of the worst aspects of himself as he's absolutely losing it over the prospect of getting to travel together with Stussy as he recognized her during his wedding in the Whole Cake Island arc. Even going so far as to turn himself into her dog in Episode 1107.

One Piece 1107: Sanji Simps Over Stussy

One Piece Episode 1107 splits the Straw Hats into smaller groups as they search for Dr. Vegapunk, and Sanji was all too happy to be walking around with Stussy. He tells her he's excited about getting to travel together with her once the Straw Hats successfully escape Egghead together with Vegapunk, and wants to be Stussy's servant. Taking it even further, he asks her to call him her dog. But rather than turn him down completely, Stussy plays into it so that Sanji can start looking for Vegapunk seriously.

Sanji then becomes a full dog in response as he bounces around, panting with his tongue sticking out, and even full on barks in response to Stussy telling him to be careful. One Piece fans are no strangers to seeing Sanji losing himself over a woman, but it's definitely taken to a wild new level here as he's very much debased himself just because Stussy's paying him just a little bit of attention. Given that these are also just extensions of her spy skills over the last few years, it definitely makes Sanji seem all the more ridiculous as a result.

Kaiju No. 8 Creator Celebrates Episode 8 With Special Sketch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/kaiju-no-8-episode-8-naoya-matsumoto-anime-manga/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 21:58:00 +0000 Nick Valdez d4b9dece-87d8-4aa6-b5a5-cab2d3c6b523

Kaiju No. 8's original creator is celebrating Episode 8 of the anime with a special new sketch highlighting its biggest moment! Kaiju No. 8 recently worked its way through the Sagamihara Neutralization Operation Arc as Kafka Hibino and the other members of his Defense Force squad took on their very first mission fighting actual Kaiju in the field. But the previous episode saw Kafka having to save Reno Ichikawa and put himself in even more danger as Kafka's Kaiju No. 8 became the main target of the squad's Vice-Captain, Soshiro Hoshina, with Kafka needing to defend himself.

This fight picks up speed in Kaiju No. 8 Episode 8 as Kafka suddenly finds himself needing to face down the Vice-Captain at his full strength. This not only demonstrated just how strong Soshiro is to Kafka, but also showcases that Kafka can't get too comfortable in using his kaiju form despite how much bigger the threats are getting with each new episode. Kaiju No. 8's original creator Naoya Matsumoto decided to highlight this fight in a special new sketch for Episode 8 of the anime shared with fans on social media. Check it out below:

Where to Watch Kaiju No. 8 Anime

Kaiju No. 8 is now streaming its new episodes live on Saturday mornings at 7:00AM PST around the world with both X and Crunchyroll. The episodes are then available for on-demand streaming with Crunchyroll shortly after. As for what to expect from the anime's story, Kaiju No. 8 begins to tease itself as such, "In a world plagued by threatening creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in the Japan Defense Force to defeat them. 'Let's wipe out the Kajju together.' Kafka pledged to his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Over time, life circumstances forced them to go their separate ways and caused him to abandon his lifelong ambition. He found himself employed by Monster Sweeper Inc., a professional cleaning company that specialises in cleaning up the aftermath of Kaiju battles."

The synopsis continues with, "Meanwhile, Mina Ashiro is now the Captain of the Defense Force's 3rd Division. As it stands, he is currently unworthy of fighting Kaiju alongside her. At work, Kafka crosses paths with the highly motivated Reno Ichikawa. Reno's undying determination to join the Defense Force leaves no room for failure. His perseverance reawakens Kafka's ambition of standing next to Mina as they protect humanity from Kaiju together. A dream frozen by time, thawed by a burning promise."

Demon Slayer Season 4 Brings an Original Hashira Battle to Life https://comicbook.com/anime/news/demon-slayer-season-4-fight-muichiro-obanai-sanemi/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 21:38:00 +0000 Megan Peters 63fab17c-a5ab-4b4b-addb-1606c664efe6

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is working through season four, and the short season has been nothing but solid so far. With a slew of episodes under its belt, the anime has put all eyes back on Tanjiro as he prepares to face down Muzan. The Hashira Training arc is putting all our faves through hell, and this week, the anime stepped out with an original battle involving the Mist Hashira and two others.

As you can see below, the whole thing came on behalf of ufotable in Demon Slayer's latest episode. The update checked in on Sanemi, the Wind Hashira, as he began training one-on-one with Obanai. The Serpent Hashira has been a good challenge for Sanemi, and after catching wind of the battle, Muichiro shows up.

Though it is all for training, the three Hashira are seen battling it out, and the original throw down is pretty glorious. Obanai and Sanemi decide to team up in their battle against Muichiro, but even so, the pair did not anticipate how fast the latter would be. The Mist Hashira is faster than ever following his defeat of an Upper Moon, and he's only getting faster.

This original Hashira battle may not seem like much to fans, but as an addition to the Demon Slayer manga, it helps pad our the Hashira. The anime's current arc is rather brisk on paper, and many fans were worried the Hashira Training arc would be paced weirdly as such. Luckily, ufotable has crafted some incredible original content to pad out the arc as Tanjiro continues his training. And this week, that original addition put Muichiro's power front and center.

If you are not caught up with Demon Slayer season four, the anime is streaming everywhere from Hulu to Crunchyroll. So for more info on the series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Learning to destroy demons won't be easy, and Tanjiro barely knows where to start. The surprise appearance of another boy named Giyu, who seems to know what's going on, might provide some answers?but only if Tanjiro can stop Giyu from killing his sister first!"

Scavengers Reign Is Out and Ready to Become Animation's Next Big Hit https://comicbook.com/anime/news/scavengers-reign-netflix/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 21:28:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 0b36fb40-4736-46ea-9103-b9cc45a64761

Scavengers Reign is now out with Netflix, and ready to find second life as an animated hit! Scavengers Reign originally premiered with Max back in 2023, and while it was a hit with animation fans back then, it was eventually announced by Warner Bros. Discovery that they would not be moving forward with more of the series and cancelling the project. But in a new non-exclusive streaming deal, it was announced that Scavengers Reign would be making its debut with Netflix with the hope that the animated series could continue with a second season if it has success on this new streaming platform.

Scavengers Reign has made its official debut with Netflix, and is hoping to find new life with this new platform and audience. It was reported by Variety that there's an interest to potentially pick up the animated series for a second season depending on how it does with the service, so fans are flocking to the service to support the animated series. This includes the likes of famed director Guillermo Del Toro, who is showing support for the series' work on social media as it's now caught in a very tight spot. Check out Netflix's trailer celebrating Scavengers Reign's release below:

What Is Scavengers Reign?

Scavengers Reign is an original animated series created by Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner (which further expands their original Scavengers short film from 2016) for Green Street Pictures and Titmouse, Inc. Now streaming with Netflix in the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland, the series currently runs for 12 episodes as of the time of this publication. The original series is teased as such, "Scavengers Reign is about the surviving crew of a damaged deep space freighter who are stranded on a beautiful yet unforgiving planet. They begin to learn the true nature of this planet as they try to survive long enough to escape or be rescued."

Scavengers Reign co-executive producer James Merrill teased ComicBook in a previous interview last year there was more to see to the story in a potential second season should the series continue, "I do feel like we tried to tell a complete story, not a puzzle box that tries to lure people back. That being said, we do have some big ideas as to what could come next. I hope that we get to do it because we want to explore what comes next. We only saw a little bit of the planet."

Kaiju No. 8 Creator Says Shin Godzilla Inspired the Hit Series https://comicbook.com/anime/news/kaiju-no-8-anime-shin-godzilla/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 21:07:00 +0000 Megan Peters 0bf29460-5e7a-4962-b565-e3ce34ea6842

Right now, the anime industry is running through its spring season, and some clear hits have climbed the charts since launching this year. As the summer season nears, shows like Kaiju No. 8 are standing out thanks to their impressive hype. From animation to pacing, Kaiju No. 8 has become a go-to series for netizens this spring, and it turns out the story's creator was inspired to pen Kaiju No. 8 thanks to Godzilla.

Yes, you read that right. The King of the Monsters helped put Kaiju No. 8 on track. While speaking with Bunshin in Japan, artist Naoya Matsumoto broke down their history with Kaiju No. 8, and it was there the creator gave a shoutout to Shin Godzilla.

After all, it turns out the Hideaki Anno film greatly inspired Matsumoto to ink Kaiju No. 8. The timing here lines up easily enough as Shin Godzilla was released in 2016. The movie marked the monster's 33rd at Toho Company, and Anno's director propelled the movie to global fame. The modern-day take on Shin Godzilla earned nothing but rave reviews, and the film helped revitalize Godzilla for modern audiences. And of course, its success led to Toho's next outing with Godzilla Minus One that managed to win a historic Academy Award.

After seeing Shin Godzilla, it seems Matsumoto was inspired to put Kaiju No. 8 to paper. The manga made its debut in July 2020, so it took a few years to come around. But of course, the sci-fi drama is not going anywhere any time soon. Kaiju No. 8 has become a next gen success for Shonen Jump, and its recent anime adaptation by Production I.G. has put the series on the map.

Want to know more about Kaiju No. 8? You can read up on its official synopsis below for all the details:

"With the highest kaiju-emergence rates in the world, Japan is no stranger to attack by deadly monsters. Enter the Japan Defense Force, a military organization tasked with the neutralization of kaiju. Kafka Hibino, a kaiju-corpse cleanup man, has always dreamed of joining the force. But when he gets another shot at achieving his childhood dream, he undergoes an unexpected transformation. How can he fight kaiju now that he's become one himself?!"

Do you think Kaiju No. 8 needs a Godzilla crossover now...? Let us know what you think over on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Toonami Rewind Premieres With the Perfect Opening https://comicbook.com/anime/news/toonami-rewind-opening/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 20:58:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 01ac5aa0-875a-4622-9049-bd5757219ad6

Toonami has gone old-school with a new classic anime block on Adult Swim, and things have kicked off with the perfect opening! Adult Swim tested out an expansion of their schedule to a couple of hours earlier in the last year, and has found great success with the nostalgia fueled Checkered Past block on weekday programming. This block airs classic Cartoon Network series from the late 1990s and early 2000s, and has been such a hit with Adult Swim that they recently kicked off a brand new nostalgia block for anime fans, Toonami Rewind, which brings some major hits back to TV.

Toonami Rewind is a brand new block on Friday afternoons with Adult Swim that brings back some classic anime from Toonami to this new afternoon schedule. Kicking off its official first broadcast on Friday, May 31st, it got started with the perfect intro from T.O.M. 6 and SARA as the two tapped into that same nostalgia where the audience imagines rushing home from school to catch the newest episodes of Sailor Moon or Dragon Ball Z as soon as their aired. Check out the opening below as spotted by Swimpedia on X.

What Is the Toonami Rewind Schedule?

Toonami Rewind will be airing with Adult Swim on Fridays, from 5-7:00PM in the place of Checkered Past (which is now airing on Mondays through Thursdays instead). The first four shows of the schedule include Sailor Moon (which features the uncensored Viz Media produced English dub), Dragon Ball Z Kai (which airs two episodes), and Naruto to cap it all off. With the block just getting started, it's yet to be revealed if fans can ever expect to see other classic anime from Toonami's past to join the block in the future.

The great thing about Toonami Rewind is that it doesn't replace the current Toonami block either, which is currently airing on Saturday evenings. The current Toonami schedule breaks down as such:

  • 12:00AM - My Adventures with Superman Season 2
  • 12:30AM - Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead
  • 1:00AM - One Piece
  • 1:30AM - Naruto: Shippuden
  • 2:00AM - Dragon Ball Z Kai
  • 2:30AM - Ninja Kamui (Dub)
  • 3:00AM - Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc

Checkered Past eventually added new shows to its roster following the first few months, and although anime licensing is certainly more difficult, it wouldn't be too far outside of the realm of imagination to see more classic anime added to Toonami Rewind's schedule in the future.

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle Post-Credits Scene Explained

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle sees Karasuno officially defeating Nekoma and making it to the Quarterfinals of the Japan's national tournament. It was a fierce game where Nekoma showcased just how well they have gotten adjusted to Karasuno's high octane offense, but it soon came to an end as Karasuno pulled through and defeated their rivals. After the credits, Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama happen to see the match of the school they'll be facing off against in the next round, Kamomedai High.

It's here that Korai Hoshiumi confronts the two and asks whether or not watching their match was in order to scope out their competition. As Shoyo looks on, Hoshiumi then declares that it's time for them to find out which one of them is the true, new "Tiny Giant," a goal that the both of them had been setting their sights on. It sets up for the next and final part of the anime's feature film grand finale, and will likely be a great place for the anime to come to an end.

This also means that the anime will likely never make it to the final arc of Haruichi Furudate's original Haikyu manga, but the Karasuno vs. Kamomedai match is a great place to go out on for a number of reasons. Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle is now screening in theaters with both English subtitled and dubbed releases available.

Look Back Director Unpacks the Movie's Horrific Crunch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/look-back-anime-movie-crunch-work-conditions/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 19:31:00 +0000 Megan Peters 33f818c7-7942-4821-981a-cc3812170a41

These days, anime is bigger than ever but working in the field can be rather difficult. As the industry expands, some workers strike rich while others find themselves bending over backwards to meet deadlines. It seems the latter situation befell director Kiyotaka Oshiyama with Look Back, unfortunately. Not long ago, the anime film was previewed in Japan, and it was there the director admitted they all but moved into their office for three months to finish the project.

The confession comes from Oricon as the publication was present at the Look Back preview. It was there Oshiyama admitted most of the staff hasn't even seen the film just yet. The version of the film shown at the preview isn't 100% finished, but even so, the director lived in their office for 2.5 months to get the draft done.

"The staff hasn't even seen the movie yet. The schedule was so grueling as if I've been doing a hard triathlon for a long time. Every day was so thrilling. It's little early to say [Look Back is] finished yet," Oshiyama shared.

"I had drawn until yesterday noon and finished [the movie] last night. I have been staying at the office the past 2.5 months. Finally, I got to go home yesterday and slept on the futon there. I think I have a lot of sleep debt now."

Clearly, Oshiyama and the team at Studio Durian worked hard to bring Look Back to life. While presenting the movie to fans, the director admitted his staff worked on Look Back up until its big premiere, and there is more work to be done. After all, the film's wide release will hit Japan on June 28. Given what we know now, the Studio Durian team is going to be working around the clock to finalize the film's preview, so we hope Oshiyama is able to take care of themselves admit that chaos.

Netflix's One Piece Star Suggests Season 3 Is Already a Go https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-netflix-season-3-rumor/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 19:20:00 +0000 Megan Peters 0db60fc9-6d0f-4a9c-aae2-c98a62bf70e6

Netflix's One Piece is far from done. Following its debut last year, the live-action anime did the impossible as it proved Hollywood wrong. For once, the industry was able to roll out a solid live-action anime that has become one of Netflix's most-watched originals. It didn't take long for a season two order to come in, and now, a new interview has fans wondering if season three is in the works.

The whole thing comes from Brashaad Mayweather as the actor, who played Patty in One Piece season one, did an interview. It was there the actor talked about Patty's future in the series, and while chatting, Mayweather suggested One Piece is going to film seasons two and three back to back.

"We'll see if they flash back to its because they're filming two seasons - season two and three - back to back starting soon. So we'll see what happens," the actor shared.

Now of course, this news is breaking if true. As far as Netflix has shared, One Piece has only been given an order for season two. It seems very unlikely Netflix would keep a two-season order quiet given how successful One Piece has been, so fans are left to question this revelation. It may be that Mayweather is confused, of course. Netflix did give a double season order for Avatar: The Last Airbender once the live-action series dropped book one. But for now, we don't have any clarification on the matter.

For now, One Piece fans are operating under the belief that season two is a go, and they are hoping for more seasons beyond that. The show's first outing covered the East Blue saga, and now, Netflix's original is ready to tackle the Arabasta saga. From Drum Island to Loguetown, the saga will have a ton to parse through, and production is expected to start soon. Reports have said One Piece season two will begin filming this summer, and June has officially arrived...!

Want to know more about One Piece? No sweat. You can read up on the series below thanks to its official synopsis:

"As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

My Hero Academia Will Wrap With a Long Epilogue, Creator Confirms https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-manga-epilogue-finale/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 18:51:00 +0000 Megan Peters 9899d006-be2c-4e49-97ca-7983fe580cd5

It is hard to believe, but at last, My Hero Academia has capped its climax. The manga brought its Final War saga to a close this month, and this week, the creator of My Hero Academia made sure to speak on its future. With the climax over, many assumed My Hero Academia would wrap rather quickly. But as it turns out, Horikoshi is going to wrap the hit series after a lengthy epilogue.

The confession comes from Horikoshi himself as the artist posted an author's note with chapter 424. This My Hero Academia chapter completely wraps Deku's fight against All For One while setting the stage for the manga's epilogue. So of course, Horikoshi wanted to assure fans there is a good bit of the manga left to go before it ends.

"Writing conventions say that the conclusion of a story should be short, but this is not the type of manga that can immediately end after the fighting is over. I'll keep going for a little while longer. We're going back to the title," Horikoshi shared.

As you can see, the artist behind My Hero Academia is not ready to part ways with his hit series just yet. Deku has finished his battle with All For One and Shigaraki, but the world is nowhere near recovered. In the manga's most recent update, My Hero Academia put the world back on track as heroes and civilians are working together to rebuild. However, not all is as it was. Deku's quirk is now fading as only the embers of One For All lives within in. Now, the hero is ready to return to school for his second year. And in the coming weeks, Horikoshi will unpack Deku's new normal with an extended epilogue.

If you want to brush up on your My Hero Academia lore, don't sweat it. The manga is easy to find on the Shonen Jump app, and the My Hero Academia anime is streaming everywhere from Hulu to Crunchyroll. So for more info on the series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life-a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That's right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered "quirk," Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that's not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world's most prestigious hero academies."

Arcane Season 2 Comes to Life in Stunning Fan Poster https://comicbook.com/anime/news/arcane-season-2-poster-artwork/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 15:24:00 +0000 Megan Peters b088d61a-e929-4cbe-a4d2-9de7a0fdbaba

Arcane season two is not that far off. It has been quite the wait, but come November, the hit animated series will return. Now, Netflix has posted a special new look at the series, and Arcane fans are already emotional thanks to the key visual.

As you can see below, the fan-made visual was released in tandem with this year's Annecy Festival. The event, which is focused on all things animation, will Arcane season two in the spotlight with Netflix's help. A panel is expected to go live for Arcane that breaks down the production of season two, so artist viollynt decided to piece together a special visual in honor of season two

The visual, as you can see it above, puts two familiar faces center stage. We can see Jinx and Vi together, but this time, the sisters' roles are quite literally reversed. This kind of dynamic fits the pair given what we saw from Arcane season one, so hopefully, the sisters will have plenty on hand to keep fans busy when season two drops.

Currently, Netflix is slated to bring Arcane season two to life in November 2024. The show's return comes some years after season one launched as the 2021 title became an instant hit. Heralded as one of Netflix's best animated originals, Arcane put Studio Fortiche on the map, and it didn't take long for a season two order to come through. If you have not seen season one of Arcane, the show is streaming on Netflix now. So for more info on the League of Legends series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"In the cities of Piltover and Zaun, tensions rise as inventors, hooligans, politicians, and crime lords grow increasingly dissatisfied with the constraints of a devastated society. With the situation on the verge of being unsustainable, two sisters steal an artifact of immeasurable power. Discovery and danger collide as heroes are born and bonds are broken. Will this power change the world? Or will it lead to ruin? This is the world of Arcane."

The Apothecary Diaries Artist Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion https://comicbook.com/anime/news/the-apothecary-diaries-artist-tax-evasion-guilty/ Sun, 02 Jun 2024 14:45:00 +0000 Megan Peters d4b71154-4581-47d3-97bd-36b3876c6933

The Apothecary Diaries has quickly become one of manga's top titles. In the wake of its hit anime adaptation, sales for the series are on the rise as Maomao's tale continues in print. However, a new report suggests the artist behind The Apothecary Diaries is in hot water. Nekokurage was accused of tax evasion earlier this year, and the artist just pled guilty in the case.

The revelation comes from Japan as the case against Nekokurage continued in court. The artist pled guilty to tax evasion which is hardly a shock. Earlier this year, the artist addresses her charge of tax evasion when it surfaced as Nekokurage stressed the situation happened unintentionally.

As for the case itself, Nekokurage admitted to evading about 47 million yen in taxes. In USD, this total lands just shy of $300,000. At this time, no sentencing has been given in relation to this crime. In Japan, this sort of crime can prompt anything from fines to jail time for those guilty.

Of course, you can bet Nekokurage is eager to avoid any jail time. Back in February, the artist released a letter addressing the tax evasion charge. It was there Nekokurage said her tax returns had been neglected our of ignorance rather than malice. In the wake of her charge, Nekokurage also secured a tax accountant to help them file their missing returns, so hopefully this due diligence will look favorably upon Nekokurage.

After all, the artist is keeping busy with The Apothecary Diaries these days. The artist helps oversee the manga adaptation of Natsu Hyuga's novels. Published by Square Enix, The Apothecary Diaries manga has been a hit with readers in the wake of its anime debut. So if you want to know more about the romantic drama, you can read the official synopsis of The Apothecary Diaries below:

"Maomao lived a peaceful life with her apothecary father. Until one day, she's sold as a lowly servant to the emperor's palace. But she wasn't meant for a compliant life among royalty. So when imperial heirs fall ill, she decides to step in and find a cure! This catches the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her. Now, she's making a name for herself solving medical mysteries!"

My Adventures with Superman Season 2 Episode 3 Recap With Spoilers

  • Superman rushes into a burning building, and when overwhelmed by flames, a glowing aura takes over his body and he's able to easily make it through the fire to save the person inside. This person introduces themselves as Silas Stone, but Superman has to help more people before finding out more. Livewire emerges from the alleyway to confront Silas and it's implied that she's the one that started the fire. Then threatening his son, Silas deletes a video from his phone and promises to keep his mouth shut.
  • Following the opening credits, a company called Amertek reveals in an ad that they are opening a new development plant in Metropolis. Meanwhile, Jimmy is struggling to keep a handle on his Flamebird interns, managing General Lane not cleaning up after himself, and keeping Clark's hero secret under wraps until he loses it. It's even more awkward for Clark as General Lane keeps noticing how Clark is disappearing at all hours of the night and constantly late to meet up with his daughter.
  • Clark and Lois still haven't talked about his developments with his cousins because of their busy lives. Meanwhile, Lois attends an Amertek press conference where its boss Thomas Weston reveals the Metallo, a machine with strength greater than Superman's and the firepower of a tank. Powered by the company's own fusion reactors, the first demonstration fails. Lois asks why John Irons, who has been the public face of Amertek (and was seen in the opening ad), is missing from the event.
  • Competing with Vicki Vale for a potential scoop on the event, Lois ends up trying to sneak into Amertek while Vale makes her way in. Meanwhile, Clark is all out of ideas for an article that he's late for and things get even more complicated when Jimmy reveals that Flamebird's young interns have followed up on a mysterious voicemail warning about killer robots in the area. On Lois' end, she and Vale snuck into Amertek and found a destroyed lab. The two of them then decide to figure out what the company is hiding, but are competing to be the first to find out.
  • Clark (as Superman) and Jimmy then investigate the message and it leads to Dr. John Irons' apartment. He reveals that when he and Stone had been hired for Amertek, he had developed a special mech suit for meant to help first responders. But Weston instead rushed them on production of the Metallos despite their flaw in their core making them unstable. He shows them footage that when more than one activates, they hit critical mass and explode. They Irons warns Weston that the larger core they've built is essentially a giant bomb.
  • This is the footage that Stone was forced to delete in the beginning of the episode as Weston has paid off Livewire and others to hide the evidence. This leads to Livewire herself attacking the apartment (after Lois and Vicki arrive) and destroying the evidence instead. Quickly heading to Amertek, Superman and Irons team up to stop the reactor but Weston tries to stop them by activating the fleet of Metallos.
  • Superman's overwhelmed, but soon he's saved by Irons, who is wearing the "Steel" mech suit that he was developing. They now need to destroy the pillars around the nuclear core to get its energy to diminish, but soon it starts going haywire as it absorbs the energy of the Metallos. Using his new energy based aura power, Superman then touches the core and tries to contain it from exploding. Irons is then able to destroy the pillars to keep the core from exploding, and everyone's safe and sound.
  • After the commotion, Vicki celebrates sharing her story only for Lois to reveal she actually put one out first. It's here Vicki offers her a job working with her after everything she's done to show she's got the goods, but it would mean leaving Metropolis behind in order to move up in the world. Clark and Lois still don't really get to talk about the things in their life like Clark's cousin and Lois potentially moving away someday. But through all of this, Clark is inspired for his Daily Planet article.
  • Clark writes on how Irons saved the city from its destruction, and it seems like it's going to be a happy ending until Irons is stopped from using his mech suit to clean up the mess at Amertek. Lex Luthor arrives and reveals that he's bought Amertek and its technology have been bought by Lexcorp...including Irons' mech suit. As the episode ends, Amanda Waller and Lex look over the fleet of unfinished Metallos.

Digital Lizards of Doom Vol. 1's Top Five Easter Eggs Include Alien, Dune, Zelda, and More https://comicbook.com/comics/news/digital-lizards-of-doom-vol-1s-top-five-easter-eggs-include-alien-dune-zelda-and-more/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 22:45:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar f04f1da2-a947-4dbb-b09d-5b67ab950dad

The delightful world of Digital Lizards of Doom is back with a new volume of adventures from Mad Cave Studios and Papercutz, but that doesn't mean there's not plenty of fun still to be had in Volume 1. More fun is right around the corner with Digital Lizards of Doom Vol. 2, which hits stores on June 25th, but Vol. 1 is in stores right now, and those who dive in will find a bevy of pop culture and comic Easter Eggs throughout. The talented team of Gabriel Valentin, Ernie Najera, Margo Prodan and Dan Brozo have woven in all sorts of hidden geekery throughout Vol. 1, including nods to Wizard of Oz, Alien, Dune, The Legend of Zelda, and more, and you can check out our five favorite Easter Eggs from Digital Lizards of Doom Vol. 1 below.

1. Wizard of Oz

1-wizard-of-oz.jpg
(Photo: Mad Cave Studios)

It doesn't get much more iconic than Wizard of Oz, and the 1939 film is the perfect place to start our Easter Egg journey. The book follows a similar pattern to Dorothy's adventure in the film, which starts out in black and white and then shifts into full color when she finds herself in Oz. Similarly, the Digital Lizards of Doom moves from black and white artwork to the world of full color when things shift to another dimension, and taking that well past coincidence is the dialogue. Dorothy then says "Toto...I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore", and in DLoD the next line is "I have a feeling you're not on earth anymore."

2. Alien and Dune

2-alien-and-dune.jpg
(Photo: Mad Cave Studios)

For our next set of Easter Eggs, it's all about Pineapple Pete's slick gaming room, where he tells us to choose a character as he sets up the first level of our video game adventure. If you glance above him, you will find homages to two beloved properties. The poster on the left is a tribute to Ridley Scott's Alien film, while the poster on the right is a tribute to Frank Herbert's Dune novels. There's actually more connections than just the posters themselves though, as Dizzy Doom's arc and story is heading in a similar direction to Dune and Alien's lead heroes.

3. Samurai Jack

3-samurai-jack.png
(Photo: Mad Cave Studios)

Pineapple Pete has more tricks up his sleeve, including one that homages the beloved and legendary Samurai Jack. As Pete explains the origins of the DLoD universe, he says "Long ago in a distant land...I, Pineapple Pete, pineapple demon of Darkness." Fans of Samurai Jack will notice that his statement is very similar to how the villainous Aku introduces himself in every episode, where he says "Long ago in a distant land...I, Aku the shapeshifting master of darkness..." This also showcases the relationship between the main villain and the main hero, so it's quite a bit more than just a fun nod to the source material.

4. The Legend of Zelda

4-legend-of-zelda.png
(Photo: Mad Cave Studios)

One of the true timeless franchises in gaming is The Legend of Zelda, and there is a fun Zelda-styled moment in Digital Lizards of Doom Vol. 1, though you might have missed it. In one scene, Dana Deathly is saying they will need the help of Fat Cat Roger to make this victory happen, and as he tries to come to terms with this predicament, Deathly says "It's dangerous to go alone". That phrase will be familiar to fans of the Zelda franchise, and it first showed up in Legend of Zelda on NES in 1986. It's since become a well-known phrase in the series, and it also represents Zelda's move from the safety of his immediate location and village to the lively but dangerous world that lies beyond his home, and that moment and shift can be found in Dizzy Doom's story as well.

William Shakespeare

5-shakespeare.jpg
(Photo: Mad Cave Studios)

For our final Easter Egg, we move to the realm of real-life history, with a host of nods to the literary icon William Shakespeare. In the book, fans are introduced to the cyborg cat pirate Captain Fat Rogers, but they are also introduced to Fat Rogers' first mate Shakey Spears. Spears is connected to Shakespeare in several ways, including the fact that he is a Dryad, a favorite of Shakespeare's. Shakey's clothes are also an ode to Shakespeare, but the most apparent homage is Shakey's exclusive use of poetic verse in his dialogue. You can check out the image above, you can find the official description for Digital Lizards of Doom below.

"When a magical trickster secretly traps an entire universe inside a video game world, a young warrior named Dizzy Doom must search for answers to unravel the mystery. But as villains from another galaxy come to attack his kingdom, Dizzy is forced to make an unlikely alliance with a mysterious ninja and cyborg cat pirate. Kaiju No. 8 Cast Teases the Series' Future https://comicbook.com/anime/news/kaiju-no-8-cast-interview-future/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 21:51:00 +0000 Evan Valentine fb0ac8b0-d2c9-49ec-95a0-369b46934040

Kaiju No. 8 was one of the most highly anticipated anime adaptations landing in 2024 for good reason. The story of Kafka and his fellow members of the Japan Defense Force remains a major player in the pages of Shonen Jump, with Production I.G. working its hardest to adapt the series to the small screen. With the English Dub releasing on a similar schedule as the original Japanese version, we here at ComicBook had the chance to talk with three of the series' biggest stars about the future of the anime.

The three cast members that we were able to chat with include Nazeeh Tarsha who plays the part of Kafka/Kaiju No. 8, Adam McArthur who plays the part of Reno Ichikawa, and Abigail Blythe who plays the role of Kikoru Shinomiya. While a second season has yet to be confirmed for the anime adaptation, there is plenty of material to adapt from the original manga from creator Naoya Matsumoto. With over one hundred manga chapters to its name so far, and no end in sight, Kaiju No. 8 might be able to warrant several seasons and/or movies to continue the animated story of the Kaiju Defense Force.

What Does The Future Hold For Kaiju No. 8?

In talking about the future of the series, the English Dub cast was more than willing to be a part of the anime series for the long haul. Abigail Blythe, who takes on the part of the young savant in the Japan Defense Force, Kikoru, stated, "I'm in for as long as they'll have me. I'm so happy to play this game and play Kikoru in this universe so I will be here."

Adam McArthur, who plays Reno, the would-be protege to Kafka, responded similarly to Abigail, "100% I'd love to stick around. Probably the easiest question that you've asked so far!"

Finally, Nazeeh, the voice of the anime's protagonist, had a message for the fans as he is also willing to be a part of the series for some time, "Enjoy the ride. Stick it out because there's something for everyone."

Kaiju No. 8's Japanese Subbed and English Dubbed episodes arrive on Crunchyroll every Saturday morning, with the original iteration arriving at 7:00AM PT and the English Dub landing at 7:30AM PT. Hazbin Hotel Creator Wants a Whole Bunch of Seasons https://comicbook.com/anime/news/hazbin-hotel-creator-interview-future/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 20:34:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 11dd4c2f-d4a2-4afe-a25e-6bdc45bfd7b7

Hazbin Hotel has been one of the biggest animated series released in North America in recent history. First starting with a pilot released on YouTube, the series focusing on an underworld locale looking to redeem Hell's residents was picked up by Amazon Video. In a recent interview with creator Vivienne Medrano, the animator has confirmed that she is hoping to have a long and bright future with Charlie and her band of misfits.

In talking with the outlet Collider, Vivienne started the interview by discussing her childhood history with the animation world, "I've always been fascinated with how animal behavior is, so I was thinking about maybe going into zookeeping or animal training, or something like that when I was really little. But, I also loved cartoons, and I would draw constantly. Having ADHD as a child, it was my constant thing of not paying attention and drawing. Very early on, when I would watch the animated movies that I had on at home, the VHSs, we would pause them and I kind of started to notice, 'Oh, this is different.' I knew what drawing was because I was already drawing as a kid, but I kind of started to notice that it was a new drawing every time, and I kind of pieced together what animation was very early on."

Hazbin Hotel And Beyond

Medrano then confirmed that she'd love nothing more than to work on the series for as long as possible, "Oh, man. I mean, the real answer is as many as they'll give me, forever -- forever and ever because there could always be more. But I think based on other shows that I love that I feel had a really good run, Bojack [ Horseman 's] my favorite series ever and it got to six, so I'm just gonna go with that as, 'My favorite show went to six, so six would be cool! ' But I feel like whatever is possible to tell the story in, which I roughly know. Who knows? I think anything's possible right now."

If you haven't had the chance to check out the first season of Hazbin Hotel, it's currently available to stream on Amazon Prime. Here's how the streaming service describes the raunchy animated series, "Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be "checking out" into Heaven. While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult film star Angel Dust, stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the "Radio Demon" reaches out to assist Charlie in her endeavors, her crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality."

Call of Duty Kicks Off Gundam Crossover with First Bundle and a New Trailer https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/call-of-duty-gundam-skins-trailer/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 20:23:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon 5a537cc4-1bcc-403b-83cb-d0228aca8113

Activision and Bandai Namco teased recently that Call of Duty would be adding Mobile Suit Gundam cosmetics soon, a crossover that would've seemed unlikely years ago but now isn't that unbelievable at all after Call of Duty's gotten collabs with things like Doom, Dune: Part 2, and more. Once the crossover was confirmed, three different bundles were announced, but release dates weren't offered. That's changed now that Activision and Bandai Namco have put the first of those three Gundam bundles in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Warzone with the other two set to release at later dates.

The first of these Mobile Suit Gundam crossovers in the Call of Duty games is highlighted by the MS-06S Zaku II Operator skin for Swagger. For those who are not as familiar with Gundam but are intrigued by the crossover now, that's the big red suit seen in the trailer below. It comes with a blueprint for the AMR9, another for the Longbow, a melee weaopn skin, a finishing move, and a calling card, and the whole bundle can be yours for 2,400 COD Points.

"The 'Tracer Pack: Mobile Suit - MS-06S Zaku II' offers a commander type mobile suit in the form of the 'MS-06S Zaku II' Operator Skin, accompanied by three Blueprints, a Charm, Loading Screen, Large Decal, two Weapon Stickers, Emblem, an animated Calling Card, and the 'Searing Slash' Finishing Move," a post from the Call of Duty team confirmed prior to this bundle going live today.

Even if you're only casually familiar with Gundam, the most recognizable of these three bundles should be the RX-78-2 Gundam. Expectedly, that one is releasing last so that the other bundles are put in front of players first. More details on those other two bundles as well as the dates on which they'll release can be found below:

Tracer Pack: Mobile Suit - XVX-016 Gundam Aerial (June 3rd)

Demon Slayer Cosplay Brings the Demon Akaza to Life https://comicbook.com/anime/news/demon-slayer-cosplay-akaza-best-anime-girls/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 19:03:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 42937695-8dc8-468b-8369-e0ce89357159

Of the many demons that have come across Tanjiro and his fellow members of the Demon Slayer Corps, Akaza might have taken the most from the heroes of Demon Slayer. As a result of the Mugen Train Arc, the Flame Hashira Rengoku was killed by the top lieutenant in Muzan's army. The fourth season of the anime adaptation is in full swing and while it's about to be halfway finished with the arrival of its next episode, there might be a place for Akaza to appear as the war against the Demon Lord Muzan rages.

Since killing Rengoku and taking damage from Tanjiro as a result of fleeing the sunlight, Akaza has been mostly stuck to the shadows and hasn't exactly been in the good graces of his boss. In the third season, during the Entertainment District Arc, Muzan nearly killed Akaza in a rage as the latter was unable to kill all of the members of the Demon Slayer Corps that he encountered. As the finale for the anime adaptation approaches, expect Akaza to play a major role in future battles of the Demon Slayer swordsmen.

Demon Slayer's Akaza Comes To Life

Rather than wielding a weapon or wild supernatural, mind-bending powers, Akaza mostly just used his fists when he first premiered as a part of the Mugen Train arc. The demon came at the Flame Hashira in a way that many didn't see coming, as the hard-hitting antagonist offered to transform Rengoku into a demon so that the two could fight forever. Should Rengoku have been turned into a demon, he might have had the power to defeat Akaza but would have had some major negative side effects.

The next episode of the critically acclaimed anime adaptation is set to arrive on June 2nd as Demon Slayer continues the Hashira Training Arc. Titled "To Bring a Smile to One's Face", Ufotable has released a new synopsis for the fourth episode of season four, "After successfully completing his training under Uzui, Tanjiro deepens his friendship with the Demon Slayer Corps members and vows to defeat Muzan Kibutsuji once again. At the Tokito residence where they next head, Muichiro has already begun intense training with the members of the Corps."

My Adventures With Superman Shares First Look At Steel https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-adventures-with-superman-steel-first-look-watch/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 18:18:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 1171c885-8016-492e-86d1-f66411b9f649

My Adventures With Superman hasn't been shy about bringing in quite a few comic book characters into the Adult Swim animated series. So far, Clark Kent fans have seen brand new takes on the likes of Lex Luthor, Amanda Waller, Deathstroke, Live Wire, Parasite, and more. While the first episodes of Season Two have already planted the seeds for the likes of Darkseid, a new preview adds a major Metropolis ally to Superman's roster as John Henry Irons has been featured front and center.

For those who might not know John Henry Irons, the armor-clad superhero first was introduced as a construction worker who was saved by Superman during an accident on the job. Inspired by the Man of Steel, Irons would create a suit of armor that allowed him to pick up where Clark Kent left off following Superman's death in the fight against Doomsday. Since being introduced in the storyline, "Reign of the Supermen", Steel would go on to not only appear in a bevy of animated series, but would also receive his own live-action movie thanks to Shaquille O'Neal's Steel.

My Adventures With Superman: Steel's Debut

While the new preview doesn't give viewers a lot of hints as to how John Henry Irons enters the Adult Swim series, it does give us a look at a very different looking set of armor that the superhero is wearing. In the comics, Steel's armor looks much closer to that of Tony Stark's Iron Man suit, albeit having a grey color scheme and a big hammer at his side. In My Adventures With Superman, the armor appears far larger and looks more like a mech suit rather than the sleeker comic book iteration.

If you want a refresher on what the upcoming season of My Adventures With Superman will be about, Cartoon Network has shared the following description, "In the latest season, the three best friends face a host of new threats. Powerful foes will emerge from Clark's alien past, Amanda Waller will take aim at Superman, Lois will grapple with the future, and Jimmy Olsen will spend an unbelievable amount of money. Krypton is coming for our young heroes, and its arrival will test their strength, loyalty, and love like never before."

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Creators Explain its Surprising Plot Twist https://comicbook.com/anime/news/scott-pilgrim-takes-off-netflix-michael-cera-ramona-twist-decision-explained/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 18:15:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 56fbe87b-bcea-4228-91eb-e0064961f111

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off's creators talked about the Netflix series' massive swerve. It feels like BenDavid Grabinski and Bryan Lee O'Malley heard some of the fan chatter and decided to do something about it. The Hollywood Reporter interviewed the series creators about the choice to take Scott Pilgrim off the board in the anime adaptation. For the duo, it makes sense because of how the fandom reacts to the title character in a lot of the discussions about Scott Pilgrim vs. The World now.

In essence, the conversations about Michael Cera's hero being the least interesting thing about his own narrative struck a chord with Grabinski and O'Malley. As an added bonus, the choice allowed them to delve into all those evil exes and background characters that have become cult favorites over the years. Here's what they told THR about Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

"We were talking about [how the fandom] seems to hate Scott now, that he's the worst character in his own story," Grabinski explained. "So why don't we give the people what they want and just take him off the street?"

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Went Meta

scott-pilgrim-review.jpg
(Photo: Netflix)

Fans were excited about the prospect of more Scott Pilgrim. But, getting the actual cast onboard was its own heavy lift too. However, Mary Elizabeth Winstead told ScreenRant that the "meta" approach to the story definitely spoke to her particularly. It feels like the swerve allowed Ramona to really step to the front and grab some agency. A lot of the fans found that change interesting.

"Definitely," Winstead began. "It was really meaningful for me to get to have Ramona be more of the focus and to get to explore her, emotionally, a bit more. I think we all really identified with our characters at the time when we made the movie, and there's something really personal about Ramona for me, so to get to look back at her as a character and also look back at myself at that time, and think about all the things that I would like to get to say to that character, or say about that character, or to myself... it was all very meta.

"The show feels [meta], obviously, but it felt that way making it as well. We were all sort of looking back at our former selves with this new lens and bringing all of that history to these characters, and who they were then, and where they're going," she added. "That was a very cathartic and emotional thing to get to do that I didn't really expect. I didn't really realize it was going to feel that way until I was actually recording it."

Look Back Director Worked on the Movie Right Up Until Its Premiere https://comicbook.com/anime/news/look-back-anime-movie-production-update/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 17:52:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 1a37c438-d1bd-4dbd-a9a4-bcfe07c48346

Manga artist Tatsuki Fujimoto might be best known for creating the story of Denji in the wild and bloody shonen series known as Chainsaw Man, but this isn't the only tale that the mangaka has forged during their career. Fujimoto also has taken the opportunity to create heart-wrenching, emotional stories that aren't populated with devils and heroes that have chainsaws bursting out of their skulls. Look Back is one such example, and with the anime adaptation set to hit theaters in Japan later this month, the director of the project has revealed a startling update on the production of the film.

Look Back will arrive in Japanese theaters on June 28th, but it will be premiering early at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. In a new interview with the outlet Oricon, director Kiyotaka Oshiyama revealed that the movie has only just been finished a few days prior to its premiere, "I was drawing until noon yesterday. Then, I heard that there was an event today, so I didn't have any clothes to wear, so I worked hard at noon and bought some at night. So everything is new."

look-back-movie-trailer-tatsuki-fujimoto.jpg
(Photo: Studio Durian)

Look Back's Trip To The Cinema

Oshiyama then confirmed that since work has just been completed on the film, the staff responsible for Look Back has yet to see it, "Even the staff haven't seen it yet. It was just so tough... It felt like I was doing a hard triathlon. Every day was so thrilling, and it's finally over... It's still too soon to finish, so it doesn't feel like it's over yet, so I thought that having everyone see it today would finally make me feel like it's over. I was drawing until yesterday afternoon, and finished it yesterday night. I stayed at the office all day for about two and a half months. Finally, I went home yesterday and slept in my futon at home. I think I've accumulated quite a bit of sleep debt."

If you want to learn more about the manga series that pulls on readers' heart strings, here is an official description of the original Look Back manga that started it all, "The overly confident Fujino and the shut-in Kyomoto couldn't be more different, but a love of drawing manga brings these two small-town girls together. A poignant story of growing up and moving forward."

My Hero Academia Creator Shares New Fiendish Art of Toga And Dabi https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-creator-new-art-toga-dabi/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 17:27:00 +0000 Evan Valentine a7337821-5f93-48e3-8f42-28b2f8c3af8f

My Hero Academia's seventh anime season is well underway, finishing up Shigaraki's fight against Star And Stripe while also revealing the identity of UA Academy's traitor. As the heroes prepare for war, the villains aren't resting on their laurels as they are still aiming to create a world where strength is king. As Shigaraki continues to heal from his recent fight and All For One continues to pull some strings, Toga and Dabi get a quiet moment before the final fight begins and creator Kohei Horikoshi has new art to celebrate.

In the fifth episode of My Hero Academia's seventh season, we witness Toga taking a walk down memory lane as she relives some of the harshest moments of her earlier days. Ostracized by both the general public and her parents for her love of sucking down vials of blood, the young villain wants a world where her tendencies won't make her a pariah. As she wanders out of her childhood home, she is confronted by Dabi, the son of Endeavor and brother to Shoto Todoroki. Prepping for the next big stage of the conflict between heroes and villains, the pair discuss one major ace up the League of Villains' sleeves.

My Hero Academia: Toga x Dabi

Kohei Horikoshi will routinely release new art when it comes to new anime episodes of My Hero Academia airing. To no one's surprise, the mangaka has decided to focus on the blood-drinking villain and her fire-manipulating cohort. Rest assured, both Toga and Dabi are sure to play major roles in the remainder of this season and the battle that will bring the beloved shonen series to a close.

As it stands, the seventh season of the anime has not been billed as the show's last. While the manga has already finished the final fight on its pages, Horikoshi has stated that the "Epilogue Arc" is planned to be a long one, meaning that we could still see several chapters that lay out what the future holds for Hero Society. When My Hero Academia does end, the grand finale is sure to be one that will rock the anime world to its core.

Netflix's Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Reveals Release Date https://comicbook.com/anime/news/tomb-raider-legend-of-lara-croft-netflix-release-date/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 16:59:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 50d975fb-0590-45ed-9ff0-aa1964a9c190

Lara Croft has been a fixture in the video game world for decades, but consoles and personal computers aren't the only places where the Tomb Raider has made an appearance. There have been three live-action films on the silver screen, two of which starred Angelina Jolie, with the most recent starring Alicia Vikander, but Netflix is looking to bring Lara to the small screen this year. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft has revealed its release date, along with some surprising new details.

Hayley Atwell, who the pop culture fan community might best know as Agent Carter from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will voice Lara Croft's animated counterpart. She's set to be joined by Allen Maldonado playing the role of "Zip" and a returning name from the video game series in Earl Baylon who will return to the role of Jonah Maiava. Arriving on October 10th this fall, the series is set to join a stacked roster when it comes to Netflix's original animated line-up.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft's Universe

Surprisingly, the new series will take place in the same universe as the recent trilogy of games, which includes Tomb Raider, Rise of The Tomb Raider, and Shadow of The Tomb Raider. Before it's release this fall, here's how Netflix describes the upcoming animated series, "The animated series TOMB RAIDER: THE LEGEND OF LARA CROFT picks up after the events of the highly successful Tomb Raider video game Survivor trilogy (Tomb Raider; Rise of the Tomb Raider; Shadow of the Tomb Raider), and will chart the globetrotting heroine's next chapter as the iconic adventurer. More than 25 years after her first appearance, Lara Croft (voiced by Hayley Atwell) continues to explore ancient mysteries and uncover lost truths across breathtaking and dangerous destinations."

The description continues, confirming that The Legend of Lara Croft takes place following the trilogy of games, "Following the events of the Survivor series, Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures. But she must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection. Her daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and to the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self, and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become."

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Announces Official English Release https://comicbook.com/anime/news/boruto-two-blue-vortex-official-english-release/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 16:26:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 9b61c515-67bf-4d87-a453-28cbce342e03

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has been making waves in the anime world since the latest Naruto series hit the ground floor running. Taking place following a major time skip, Boruto Uzumaki might have increased his power but has a bevy of wild challenges to now deal with from across the board. While the chapters are available to read digitally, Viz Media has announced that a physical release is on its way to North America, hinting at when the Konoha story will be available.

For those who might be unaware of the Two Blue Vortex, the sequel series sees Boruto Uzumaki not only on the rung from the likes of the Kara Organization and new villains the Divine Trees, but also his former friends and loved ones. Thanks to some reality-manipulating shenanigans, Boruto has been made public enemy number one as everyone believes that the son of the Seventh has killed his mother and father. Luckily, Boruto isn't entirely alone when it comes to the trials and tribulations before him as the likes of Sasuke, Sarada, and Koji Kashin all know the truth. With creator Masashi Kishimoto continuing to be the writer of the ninja world, Two Blue Vortex has lit a fire under many manga fans to once again return to the ninja world.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is Coming to North America

Viz Media has confirmed that physical copies of the Boruto sequel series are on the way, though fans will be waiting for some time to dive into this latest take on the Hidden Leaf Village. Set to arrive in the West in Spring 2025, manga readers will have to wait for several months to see what Boruto Uzumaki is up to. Luckily, if you can't wait until next year, the current run is available online to read thanks to Viz.

At present, Naruto fans continue to wait for the anime adaptation's return. Studio Pierrot has gone on record that they are focusing more on a seasonal schedule and had indefinitely delayed for original episodes of the initial Naruto series. When the television series does return, it will have some wild events to bring to the screen.

My Hero Academia Officially Kicks Off Its Final Fight https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-season-seven-final-fight-begins/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 15:55:00 +0000 Evan Valentine b45e6374-32cf-4f9b-a3d8-1130ed48fbf2

The war has officially begun in My Hero Academia's seventh season, as the heroes of UA Academy have gathered to put an end to the plans of the League of Villains. While the manga moves toward bringing the series' story to a close, the anime adaptation has some major ground to cover before it does the same. Thanks to the latest episode, we are able to see just how this final battle has come about and how the heroes have gained an advantage in taking on All For One and Shigaraki.

Warning. If you have yet to watch the latest episode of My Hero Academia's anime, the fifth episode of season seven, be forewarned that we'll be diving into major spoiler territory. Our latest episode begins with a walk through memory lane with Toga, revealing the more disturbing side of the villain's earlier days. With Dabi burning her old house to the ground, the two prepare for war with the blood-drinking antagonist revealing that she has kept a vial of Twice's blood. Thanks to holding onto this bodily fluid from the duplicating antagonist, Toga will have the ability to rely on one of Twice's most devastating attacks, Sad Man's Parade.

The War Begins

In order to get All For One and the Paranormal Liberation Front right where they wanted them, the heroes used Aoyama and his parents in a way to spring a trap. Since the traitor was revealed, Deku and his friends weren't willing to lose faith in Can't Stop Twinkling, believing that redemption was not out of their friend's grasp. Now, in the latest episode, both the biggest heroes and villains have arrived on the battlefield to get the ball rolling on the final fight of the anime.

Without diving too deeply into spoiler territory, My Hero Academia's manga is about to wrap. Entering into its "Epilogue" arc, creator Kohei Horikoshi has made it no secret that he is looking to put a bow on Izuku Midoriya's story. While the mangaka has yet to confirm when the last chapter will be released, the superhero shonen series ending this summer seems like a strong possibility.

Godzilla Minus One is Now on Netflix https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-minus-one-netflix-watch/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 15:00:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 92bfd604-1347-4267-92cc-56ffd57f0c0c

In a shocking twist, Godzilla Minus One has arrived on Netflix. Dropped as a stealth release, the fan-favorite kaiju film was set to land on VOD this month, but the streaming service kept its cards close to its chest when it came to the Academy Award-winning kaiju film. Earlier this week, the main Godzilla Minus One social media account teased that something big was coming, and this Netflix release certainly fits the bill when it comes to Japan's pivotal giant monster story.

When it comes to the King of the Monsters, Godzilla Minus One isn't the only project on Netflix focusing on the lizard king. The streaming service also houses 2014's Legendary Pictures film, Godzilla, which kicked off the MonsterVerse in the West and the world at large. The platform also has the original anime adaptation, Godzilla Singular Point, for those looking for an animated take on the popular beast. Netflix also has the three original animated films for viewers to stomp their way through, which include Godzilla: Planet of The Monsters, Godzilla: City On The Edge Of Battle, and Godzilla: The Planet Eater.

Godzilla Minus One Joins Netflix's Kaiju Library

You can revisit Godzilla Minus One, or experience the kaiju film for the first time, by clicking here. While the killer kaiju movie has arrived on the streaming service, there has yet to be word on a physical release similarly hitting North America as one has in Japan though that isn't stopping kaiju fans from crossing their fingers that a Blu-Ray is on the way.

Godzilla Minus One has yet to be confirmed for a sequel, though there are projects set for the future starring the king of the monsters. A third entry in the MonsterVerse's Godzilla/Kong series has already found its writer, while a second season of the television series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, has also been confirmed.

Here's how Netflix has described the story of Godzilla Minus One, in case you needed even more incentive to dive right into this thrilling kaiju tale, "In this explosive sci-fi film, a former fighter pilot and a group of veterans defend Japan from a nuclear-enhanced monster."

Godzilla Minus One Drops Ominous Tease https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-minus-one-mystery-teaser/ Fri, 31 May 2024 22:29:00 +0000 Evan Valentine eb524311-4aea-4f7e-9b73-cb039fbaa55d

Godzilla Minus One is considered by many to be the greatest movie featuring the king of the monsters for good reason. The heart-pounding drama was able to take home an Oscar at this year's Academy Awards thanks to winning "Best Visual Effects". While no sequel has been announced for the kaiju movie, this might change as Toho is hinting that something is on the way for this new take on Godzilla. While nothing has been confirmed, that won't stop kaiju fans from speculating what's to come for the lizard king.

Godzilla Minus One was able to become a hit thanks to its dramatic story and compelling character work. Rather than taking place in the present, the recent Japanese take on the lizard king took place shortly following World War 2. Following a kamikaze bomber who was unable to sacrifice his own life, Godzilla attacks Japan in a reflection of the original 1950s movie that brought the kaiju to life. While Godzilla was ultimately defeated at the end of the Academy Award-winning film, there were more than a few Easter Eggs that hinted at what a sequel might look like as the lizard king isn't as dead as humanity believed.

Godzilla Minus One...Plus Two?

While this teaser is quite mysterious, it might not necessarily mean that a sequel is on the way. Starting on June 1st, Godzilla Minus One will be available for purchase on VOD platforms for those who either missed the movie while it was in theaters or are looking to add the critically acclaimed kaiju film to their digital collection. While Japan has seen a physical release of the film, nothing has been confirmed regarding a North American Blu-Ray set.

One of the seeds that were planted in Godzilla Minus One's finale was a scene under the sea that showed the remains of the lizard king beginning to reform, showing that the kaiju's healing factor is far greater than many thought. On top of this, the female lead Noriko was shown to have a mark that hinted that she might be under the influence of Godzilla or might have been infected by the giant monster's cells.

Want to see if Godzilla Minus One gets a sequel? Follow along with Team Anime on ComicBook for all the latest updates on the kaiju universe, both in Japan and in North America.

Hunter x Hunter's Creator Shares New Art of Gon https://comicbook.com/anime/news/hunter-x-hunter-creator-new-gon-art/ Fri, 31 May 2024 20:30:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 0ca47d33-03f3-4c12-a3e6-e6a7aebd8c33

Despite Gon being the de facto star of Hunter x Hunter, it has been some time since the young hunter has appeared in the beloved shonen manga. In fact, it has been years since we last saw the hero as creator Yoshihiro Togashi has instead focused on Kurapika during the Succession Contest Arc. Even though Gon's return is far from a certainty, Togashi recently released new art that proves that the artist has not forgotten about one of anime's most beloved protagonists.

In a recent interview, Yoshihiro discussed early plans for the manga series that has become a hit in the shonen world, "The first three chapters [were planned]. Once I had a rough idea of the setting (or story in another world that focuses on the profession of Hunters), I felt like I could continue the story as long as I wanted. So I decided that the goal of the serialization would be to 'continue for as long as possible' that it should start with the main character taking the Hunter Exam."

Togashi then explained why he decided to have both Killua and Hisoka appear so early during the Hunter Exam, "If the question is asking about what actually appeared in the story, the answer would be the first three chapters. However, I had already decided that pillars of the story -- the friend and the villain -- would appear at the beginning of the exam. I decide what needs to be done in terms of narrative structure first, and then work on the details with a great sense of urgency until the last minute. In that regard, I had a rough idea of the outline for the story ahead, but since the time skip idea was rejected, I had to draw the section right before that part and revise my initial plans. I remember that I probably wasn't able to finish the manuscript that week."

Hunter x Hunter: Gon Sort of Returns

Despite his health issues, the manga artist responsible for creating the world of hunters has continued to work on new chapters for the beloved shonen series. While the anime adaptation has no official plans of making a comeback, there should be quite a bit of material to bring to the small screen whenever Gon and company make a comeback.

Dragon Ball Z Cosplay Recreates Yamcha's Lowest Moment https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-z-cosplay-yamcha-death/ Fri, 31 May 2024 18:53:00 +0000 Evan Valentine bfcfd771-12a6-41fa-ac42-c5895c733019

Yamcha might not be able to transform into a Super Saiyan or access the power of Ultra Instinct, but the Z-Fighter has found a fanbase thanks to some big moments in the shonen franchise. Despite eventually returning from the grave, Yamcha's death might be the most remembered moment of the former desert bandit's career. In some ingenious cosplay, one Dragon Ball Z format took the opportunity to bring Yamcha's death scene to the real world thanks to some spot-on cosplay.

As mentioned earlier, Yamcha might have died during Dragon Ball Z's Saiyan Saga, but he was resurrected following the defeat of Frieza on the Planet Namek. Most recently, Yamcha almost got married in the side story known as Super Dragon Ball Heroes, as he met an alien fighter that immediately fell in love with the one-time bandit. In the main continuity, Yamcha was able to finally return to the battlefield thanks to the Moro Arc. During this recent arc, which has yet to make its way to any anime adaptation, Moro was headed to the Earth with a bevy of henchmen that were looking to aid in the sorcerer's endeavors. Since the underlings weren't as powerful as their leader, Yamcha was able to fight some of the enemies, giving fans a scene they might not have seen coming.

Yamcha RIP

Unfortunately, Yamcha and the other human heroes in the Z-Fighter roster haven't been able to keep up with the likes of Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo. Perhaps now that the universe is threatened by a stronger Frieza and his new transformation, Black Frieza, the human brawlers might find themselves stepping up. Here's hoping that despite what happens in the anime's future, Yamcha doesn't find himself recreating his Saiyan Saga fate.

Later this fall, Yamcha will return to the small screen thanks to Dragon Ball Daima. Much like his fellow Z-Fighters, the desert bandit will look quite different from how he once had, as Yamcha will also be transformed into a child. As Goku will travel the galaxy to uncover the conspiracy, it will be interesting to see how much screen time the other anime fighters receive.

If you haven't caught up on both The Seven Deadly Sins and its sequel series, The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of The Apocalypse, both are streaming on Netflix. Here's how the streaming service describes the sequel series handing the baton off from Meliodas to Percival, "Dive into an endless world, into a great destiny...Sequel to The Seven Deadly Sins! A story 16 years after the 'Holy War'! Percival is a kind-hearted boy who lives with his grandfather in a remote area called 'God's Finger.' However, the world did not allow such peace. An encounter with a mysterious knight changes their fate and reveals a shocking secret. The boy sets out on an endless journey. You can enjoy it even if you know The Seven Deadly Sins or not! By combining the unrelated anime properties, Voltron was created with help from an all-new English dub.Voltron was a hit upon its release, and its anime roots helped usher more Japanese media to the United States. A slew of series have tackled the IP since the '80s including Netflix's hit revival Voltron: Legendary Defender. A live-action Voltron film has been rumored for years now, but it's been all quiet since reports surfaced in 2022 that Amazon was a top bidder for the project.

My Hero Academia Shares New Season 7 Episode 5 Images https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-season-7-episode-5-images/ Fri, 31 May 2024 16:52:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 7f3f8f73-b835-4b90-9e7e-7b95db7c2e84

My Hero Academia's seventh season might not be the anime's last, but it is setting the stage for the grand finale of Class 1-A. As Deku and his friends prepare to take on All For One and Shigaraki, the young crime fighters had to deal with one of their own as UA Academy's traitor was revealed. To get fans hyped for the next episode, the shonen anime adaptation has released a new preview for the fifth episode of its seventh season that has some serious bombshells.

To get fans up to speed on what has happened so far in My Hero Academia's seventh season, the latest episodes began by focusing on the fight between America's Star And Stripe and the heir of All For One, Shigaraki. While Kathleen Bate had some serious power thanks to her all-powerful Quirk, New Order, it wasn't enough to save her own life as she died fighting against the young villain. Luckily, Star And Stripe's sacrifice wasn't in vain, as the damage she laid on Shigaraki gave Deku and company a brief reprieve. While the young heroes of Class 1-A are working on their Quirks, they came to learn that Aoyama was the traitor of the series.

My Hero Academia Season Seven Episode 5 Preview

While the final arc is well underway in My Hero Academia's anime adaptation, the storyline has already ended in the manga. Without diving into spoiler territory, the big fight has come to an end and creator Kohei Horikoshi is about to dive right into an "Epilogue" that will examine the future of Hero Society. While Horikoshi has yet to confirm how many more chapters the shonen series has in the tank, the idea that Deku and his friends' story will end this summer seems like a safe bet.

Can't Stop Twinkling was revealed to be the traitor in UA Academy's midst but there was more to the story than simply the young crime fighter being a secret villain. Aoyama had been working for All For One in an effort to make sure that his parents wouldn't suffer his wrath, especially since they owed the villain for granting Aoyama his Quirk.

Kaiju No. 8 Cast Reveals Their Favorite Kaiju https://comicbook.com/anime/news/kaiju-no-8-cast-interview-favorite-kaiju/ Fri, 31 May 2024 16:04:00 +0000 Evan Valentine a5357654-1534-43c4-9793-5d875678657f

Kaiju No. 8 is performing a victory lap with its first season, as the television series has already introduced its protagonist Kafka and the Japan Defense Force that leads the charge in the war against giant monsters. Hitting the ground floor running, the series is streaming on Crunchyroll with both the original Japanese version and the English Dub. Recently, we here at ComicBook had the opportunity to talk with the English Dub Cast of the latest hit anime series and get their thoughts on which giant monsters are their favorites amongst a packed roster.

During the interview session, we were able to chat with Nazeeh Tarsha (Kafka Hibino), Adam McArthur (Reno Ichikawa), and Abigail Blythe (Kikoru Shinomiya) regarding their kaiju preferences. While some kaiju were chosen from the anime adaptation, there were some surprising picks when it comes to the cast's favorite monsters.

Kaiju No. 8's Favorite Kaiju

To start, Abigail Blythe, the voice of Kikoru, confirmed that her favorite kaiju hailed from the Playstation 2 video game, "War of The Monsters. First released in 2003, the fighting game created brand new beasts who allowed players to fight for supremacy throughout different locales. "I played War of the Monsters growing up on PlayStation 2, maybe I'm dating myself a little bit. That Praying Mantis creature (Zorgulon) is my favorite as I would always pick them when I would play against my brother. Being able to fly as a monster that big is really overpowered and shouldn't exist but I think it's really cool."

Adam McArthur, the voice of Reno, kept it 'in-house' by picking a beast from Kaiju No. 8's roster, "I'm going to go with Kaiju No. 9. I'm going to keep it in-house for this one. I think Alejandro Saab, who is voicing Kaiju No. 9 is doing the weirdest, coolest-sounding thing for this character. I'm scared and excited all at the same time!"

Finally, Nazeeh Tarsha, the voice of Kafka, couldn't narrow down his favorite kaiju to one pick, choosing several giant beasts as his favorite of all time, "I'm going to give you two answers. One because I have to pick myself of course, because with the power and shape-shifting, what is there not to like with Kaiju No. 8? If we're going with my childhood, Godzilla is the OG and King Ghidorah is right up there as well. You can't not like them, so I lied, I gave you three answers."

Kaiju No. 8's Japanese Subbed and English Dubbed episodes arrive on Crunchyroll every Saturday morning, with the original iteration arriving at 7:00AM PT and the English Dub landing at 7:30AM PT.

Baki Hanma Vs. Kengan Ashura Shares Its Anime Fighter Card https://comicbook.com/anime/news/baki-hanma-vs-kengan-ashura-lineup-revealed/ Fri, 31 May 2024 15:10:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 621aa9db-6be4-4868-aa9b-7fc455448721

The anime crossover of the century is preparing to land this summer as Baki Hanma Vs. Kengan Ashura will arrive on Netflix next month. Since this upcoming anime series isn't based on a manga and/or light novel, the winners of the battles are anyone's guess at this point. Luckily, anime fans can start debating the victors as Netflix has revealed who will be fighting on the side of the son of the Ogre and who will fight on the side of Ohma Tokita.

Here is a breakdown of the upcoming fights that will populate the hard-hitting crossover according to Netflix:

  • Match #1: Saw Paing Yoroizuka vs. Kaoru Hanayama Saw Paing, a master of the traditional Burmese martial art Lethwei, represents the Village of Dawn from "KENGAN ASHURA." Facing him is Kaoru Hanayama from "BAKI," Japan's premier brawler and the formidable leader of the Hanayamagumi yakuza family, whom he took over as the second boss at just 15 years old.

  • Match #2: Raian Kure vs. Jack Hammer Raian Kure, representing Under Mount, Inc. and known as the most brutal member of the Kure clan of assassins from "KENGAN ASHURA," goes head-to-head with Jack Hammer, a Canadian pit fighter from "BAKI." Hammer achieved the ultimate physique through extreme doping and unconventional training methods.

  • Match #3: Ohma Tokita vs. Baki Hanma The main event pits these two protagonists against each other in a fight that fans will be talking about for years to come. Ohma Tokita, with his sharp vision and Nikostyle fighting, faces off with Baki Hanma, the young champion determined to surpass his father, the strongest creature in the world.

Baki Hanma Vs. Kengan Ashura: Let's Get It On

For the upcoming crossover landing on Netflix on June 6th, the series decided to lean into Baki's animation style rather than Kengan's. The latter uses a more CG-animation style in presenting its fights, whereas the son of the Ogre's story is told via a more traditional 2-D style. Led by anime studio TMS Entertainment, the three fights being touted by Netflix are sure to be some of the biggest anime brawls of the year.

Suicide Squad Isekai's New Trailer Makes Peace With Peacemaker https://comicbook.com/anime/news/suicide-squad-isekai-peacemaker-trailer-watch/ Fri, 31 May 2024 14:43:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 10000054-580c-4dc5-a0a5-968a23dfdc7a

Suicide Squad Isekai is only a few weeks away from hitting the small screen, and the anime series is continuing to release trailers focusing on the squad's individual members. Recently, we've seen trailers devoted to the likes of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and the Joker, but now, the team's resident peacemaker, Peacemaker, is getting his chance to shine. Looking to arrive this July, the anime isekai might not have a release date, but it does have some amazing trailers to share.

Peacemaker made his live-action debut thanks to 2021's The Suicide Squad film, wherein James Gunn cast John Cena as the brutal gunman. Hot on the heels of the initial release, Gunn would bring back Cena's character for a live-action television series on MAX. As it stands, the upcoming anime adaptation has yet to reveal its English Dub cast, though we have to imagine that there are many anime fans that are hoping to see the WWE superstar return to the role. Even if Cena isn't a part of the anime series, Peacemaker's second season is currently in production.

Time To Make Peace With The Suicide Squad

While Cena's involvement remains a mystery, the Japanese voice actor for Peacemaker has been revealed. Voice actor Takehito Koyasu will be bringing the member of the Suicide Squad to life and the actor has quite the resume in the anime world. In the past, Koyasu has played the roles of Toji Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen, Dio Brando in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Zeke Jaeger in Attack on Titan.

If you want to learn more about the Suicide Squad's first foray into the Isekai genre, here's how Warner Bros and Wit Studio describe the upcoming DC anime, "In the crime-ridden Gotham city, Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., has assembled a group of notorious criminals for a mission: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface and King Shark. These DC Super-Villains are sent into an otherworldly realm that's connected to this world through a gate. It's a world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies--an "ISEKAI"!"

My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Debuts New Classic Villain Makeovers https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-adventures-with-superman-season-2-classic-villain-makeovers/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:18:00 +0000 Evan Valentine ea5c489f-fd48-44a4-990e-7cde4b7a3e61

My Adventures With Superman's first season gave makeovers to quite a few legendary villains in the Man of Steel's rogues gallery. Deathstroke, Parasite, Live Wire, and more were all given new anime aesthetics to match the likes of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen. The second season of the Adult Swim hit wasted little time in bringing in new threats and giving them some major makeovers to boot.

Of the new villains that we witnessed in the first two episodes of season two, we were able to see new takes on Atomic Skull and Damage. The former has long been a big villain in Superman's roster, but the latter has always been more of a hero than a villain during his DC Comics' career. Regardless, the two were put to good use thanks to Amanda Waller, who has continued to build quite the Task Force X. As viewers witnessed during the second episode finale, we also received confirmation that the "Alex" of the series was none other than Lex Luthor. Needless to say, Clark and company have some big threats ahead.

The Superman Villain You Might Have Missed

On top of both Atomic Skull and Damage, you might have missed a villain in disguise in "Hank". While not confirmed, Lois had a friend at S.T.A.R. Labs named Hank, who might just be the character known as Hank Henshaw. Hank Henshaw turns out to be the major villain, Cyborg Superman, who not only looks like the spitting image of Superman, but has both the Kryptonian's powers and an array of technological advantages.

If you want to learn more about the latest season focusing on the Man of Steel, here's how Adult Swim describes Season Two of My Adventures With Superman, "In the latest season, the three best friends face a host of new threats.

Naruto Debuts New Spirit Bomb Rasengan in New Promo: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-rasengan-anime-spirit-bomb/ Thu, 30 May 2024 21:38:00 +0000 Megan Peters c5b05408-8e3c-4955-ac5e-be0473563af4

Naruto Uzumaki is a powerful little man. For decades now, the shonen industry has bowed before the ninja and his insane abilities. Despite being raised as a pariah, Naruto has risen from the bottom to become one of the most respected heroes to ever grace Shonen Jump. And now, a new Naruto promo has revealed the hero's new Rasengan... and it looks like an actual Spirit Bomb.

No, we're totally serious. Get Goku on the phone if you don't believe us. The latest update for Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is live, and the promo reveals Naruto's devastating new attack.

As you can see above, the fan-dubbed Rasen-Bomb puts Naruto on the battlefield, and he's got some friends with him. On either side of Naruto, we can find Ashura Otsutsuki and Hashirama Senju ready for battle. It is there the two men lend Naruto their power to feed a massive Rasengan Bomb, and from there, our hero can launch his attack.

Now, according to the game itself, this ability is called Six Paths: Shins Rasen Shuriken, and it can be performed with Naruto's two allies. However, anime fans were quick to point out just how similar this technique looks to the Spirit Bomb we met in Dragon Ball. The only difference is that Goku channeled energy from thousands into his Spirit Bomb while Naruto leans heavily on chakra from just two allies.

Still, the damage has been done, and now Naruto fans are eager to see more of this new Rasengan in action. If we are lucky, the actual manga will find a way to make this Rasengan canon. But for now, netizens will only be able to enjoy the move if they've purchased the third DLC pack for Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections.

What do you think about this wild Naruto tribute? Let us know what you think over on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Currently, BET is in production in Toronto, Canada. No release window has been given for the live-action adaptation at this point. As for its crew, Simon Barry is directing and writing the drama. With ten episodes to its name, BET hopes to bring the world of Kakegurui outside of Japan and into a new world. So for those wanting to know more about BET, a short synopsis of the series was posted by Netflix today:

"In BET, the boarding school's hierarchy is upturned when Yumeko, a mysterious transfer student arrives from Japan with a dark secret and a gambling prowess that puts her in the crosshairs of the powerful Student Council. Ultimately, her revenge quest threatens to upend the school's status quo entirely."

If you are not familiar with Kakegurui on its own, the original series began in March 2014 under Homura Kawamoto and Toru Naomura. The manga is ongoing, and thanks to MAPPA, Kakagurui was given a hit anime adaptation starting in September 2017. A live-action drama for Kakegurui was released in Japan in 2018 which became a hit on Netflix. And now, the site is investing in a Hollywood adaptation of the high-stakes thriller with BET.

Blue Lock Season 2 Poster Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/blue-lock-season-2-poster/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:56:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 5329363b-1ae5-4e75-a1a7-95227f5863d8

Blue Lock's second season is set to take the anime world by storm this October, continuing the quest of many Japanese soccer players to become a part of the country's premier team. While the players won't die should they fail the "Blue Lock Program", they'll never be able to be a part of Japan's top team, meaning that their lives might as well be over for many of the participants. To give fans a closer look at the hard-hitting adventures to come, Blue Lock has released a new poster for its next season.

Blue Lock has also released a new synopsis for the second season, showing that the participants of the project still have some major challenges ahead, "In order to develop the world's best striker who can lead Japan to victory in the World Cup, the Japan Football Association launches the "Blue Lock" project. 300 high school students were invited to the project, all of whom were forwards. In the extreme situation where dropping out would mean losing their eligibility to join the Japanese national soccer team in the future, the selected talented players one by one awaken their egos as strikers. 35 people survived the harsh selection process, sometimes by kicking others down and sometimes by evolving themselves. Having overcome the frenzy of survival swirling with egos, they will bet on the survival of the "Blue Lock" project as they take on the U-20 Japan National Team in the craziest match in history!"

For season two, Eight Bit Studio will return after the successful first season. Prior to the second season, Blue Lock fans have another big project to look forward to as the first film of the franchise, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, will arrive in North American theaters next month following a successful run in Japan.

If you haven't had the chance to check out Blue Lock, the first season is available to stream on Crunchyroll. Here's how the streaming service describes the series, "Japan's desire for World Cup glory leads the Japanese Football Association to launch a new rigorous training program to find the national team's next striker. Three hundred high school players are pitted against each other for the position, but only one will come out on top. Who among them will be the striker to usher in a new era of Japanese soccer?"
